Pompeii On The Map: Where Each Tour Starts

Most days out here begin at one of a few fixed spots: the Porta Marina entrance, Piazza Anfiteatro, Pompei Scavi station, or a pickup in Naples or Sorrento. The map plots every tour against those points, so you can see at a glance where your day starts before you commit to a booking.

Gates, Stations And Departure Points

The excavations sit beside modern Pompei, with the Circumvesuviana stop, Pompei Scavi, a short walk from the Porta Marina gate. Vesuvius fills the skyline to the north, its crater road reachable by coach or shuttle from Naples or the Pompei area. Herculaneum lies further along the same railway at Ercolano, so combined tours often pair the two sites in one day. Oplontis sits between them, near Torre Annunziata. Naples anchors the network: trains, transfers and coaches all converge there, and the free pay-what-you-want walks cover its centre.

The roster spans 17 categories. Short guided walks of the excavations run about two hours, while the longest day trips stretch to 13 hours across Pompeii, Vesuvius and the Amalfi Coast. Sort by rating, price or duration to cut the list down: the eight Pompeii-and-Vesuvius combinations sit at one end of the range, and the Capri boat day at the other.

Prices run from pay-what-you-want walks of Naples up to $317.56 for the longest day trip. The spread reflects what each listing bundles in: skip-the-line entry, a licensed guide, transport, a wine tasting or lunch. Most charge per person, but one private tour is priced per group of up to 14, so check inclusions on the live booking page before you decide.

Filter by start city first. A trip out of Naples and one out of Sorrento can cover the same sites at very different paces, and the wrong choice costs hours in transit. Next, fix a duration: two hours suits a morning at the excavations, while eight or more adds Vesuvius or the coast. The shortlist left over is usually small enough to book from quickly.
